Hi. Welcome to my photo blog. My photography business goes under the name of Mitchell R. Grosky Photography, but please feel free to call me Mitch.
I am a freelance photographer in a small town in Central Massachusetts. I have been in love with photography and taking photos of people and places since I bought my first film Pentax Super Program SLR back about 30 years ago. Now, nearly all of my photography is Digital, via my Nikon D200, Nikon D80, Canon Rebel XT, and even my new pocketable Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. In addition, I have owned digital cameras from Olympus and Sony, but I would have to say that Nikon is my camera of choice. I use Nikkor lenses generally, my Nikkor VR 18-200 3.5-5.6 and my Nikkor 18-70 3.5-4.5 getting most of my photographic action. My Canon is generally a backup, and I keep a Canon 18-55 zoom on it, but I replace it, for specical occasions, with the image-stabilized ultrasonic 75-300 lens or the 1.8 50mm lens.
For developing, I do a great deal of post-processing, using Picassa 2.0 for everyday work, and Photoshop Elements 6.0 for most of my publishable work. For in-house printing, I generally use either my Canon i9900 or my Canon Pixma iP4600.
I have recently retired as an elementary school principal after spending 35 years in education. Aside from my years as an administrator, I was a classroom teacher for 29 years, teaching students in elementary, middle school, and high school. I have always been known for my photos of children in the classroom, and the walls of my schools came alive with nearly a thousand 5×7 and 8×10 photos of children excited by their learning.
My wife–who is a middle schools special needs teacher–and I love to travel, and over the past 20 years we have cruised to Canada, nearly every island in the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico, and to 15-20 European destinations. At times we have traveled with my daughter (currently completing her Master’s Degree in early childhood education), and my son, who is both working and attending community college.
My travels have provided me with the material for 35,000 to 45,000 photos, and hours upon hours of joy.
I recently returned from a whirlwind 27 day cross-country trip from Boston as far west as Wyoming and Utah and then back. 8000 miles and nearly 9000 photos later, I am hoping to one day find a publisher who is interested in a photography book narrating my experiences.
My photography business has been part-time until now, and has focused on both weddings and senior photos. Having just retired, I will expand slightly, but really wish to focus on landscapes and cityscapes. I am also exploring entering the world of stock photography.

Hey Mitchell,
Just wanted to ask you for your permission to use your Boston skyline evening picture (the one you took when you and your wife were staying at the Hyatt). I am trying to start a website about events in the Boston area and want to use the image but not “as-is”. I want to take it and play with it in photoshop and combine it with another image to get something I want for the website. Is this okay with you? Feel free to e-mail me to get a more detailed explanation.
Thank you.
Dear Martin,
Thank you for your email. I am granting you permission to use my photograph with the following stipulations:
1. On your site, you clearly indicate that your final image was derived from and original image photographed by Mitchell R. Grosky and is printed with permission.
2. You show me your final image (incorporating mine) before using it (and receive permission).
3. I retain full ownership of my original photograph.
Thank you,
Mitch Grosky

Hi! You have some great pictures. As a lifelong resident of Boston (and one that runs the Charles daily) I am a huge fan of the skyline with the moon. Do you sell copies of your prints? I would be very interested. Please email me prices and sizes. Thank you!

this is a great blog! I knew you had a camera – but I didn’t know you knew how to use it like this! Awesome!
Thanks so much, Chris! I appreciate your generous comments and look forward to checking out your blog! Thanks again!
Is your boston skyline for sale?
Yes it is. Please write to me at mrgrosky@msn.com, specifying what size print you wish (4×6, 5×7, 8×10, 11×14) and if you want just the print, or you want a matted print, or if you want a framed and matted print. Then I can discuss pricing with you. Finally, are you interested in the DAYTIME Boston Skylight photograph with the tall ship in the foreground or the nighttime panorama shot posted at the top of my NEW blog—http://thisweekwithmitchgrosky.wordpress.com ? I also have several other Boston skyline NIGHT scenes, if you wish we to send low-resolution pics to consider…..
Mitch, what an interesting background you have. I’m pleased to have you put me into your blogroll.
I also taught elementary school..I did it for 18 years and mostly 2nd grade. You do very interesting pictures and I will be back to look more when things calm down at my house. My husband is just home from a nursing home and we’re still adjusting. It takes time. Also, my plan is to get back out with my camera (also Nikon) very soon. Yesterday I found an Osprey in my backyard tree so got some shots of him. Perhaps I can post it on my blog this week… Cheers!
Thanks so much for your kind words, Gaye. Nice to meet a fellow teacher on WordPress. I hope that your husband is doing well. An Osprey—-wow—I’ll look forward to your posting! Mitch
